Skimming / Re-Skimming
Skimming is the final coat of plaster and is applied to either new plasterboard, backing plaster or existing plaster. This process is designed to provide the finish product before decoration works are undertaken.
What is skimming?
Skimming is the term used for the finish coat of plaster, it is a thin and final coat that’s applied prior to painting.
How quickly can new plaster be painted?
A freshly skimmed wall or ceiling can be painted withing 3-4 days after its been plastered.
Can you plaster over wallpaper?
No!! When plastering takes place its only as good as what your plastering over, so if the wallpaper fails (which it usually does once wet) then so will the plaster.
Can you plaster over artex?
Yes this is possible providing ceilings are sound, this can be a cost affective way of creating flat ceilings.
Will new plaster stop damp/mould problems?
No, damp problems can be caused by a number of underlying issues such as poor ventilation or rising damp etc. Investigations should be undertaken to find the route of the issue before plastering works is undertaken.
