Plastering FAQs
We get asked a lot of questions when quoting for a job, and we try to remember them so we can update the website to make it easier for you to know what’s involved:
Plastering and rendering are similar processes involving the application of a mixture to a wall, but they differ in the materials used and the surfaces they cover:
- Plastering refers to the process of applying plaster to internal walls and ceilings, creating a smooth finish for decoration.
- Rendering involves applying a mixture (often cement, sand, and lime) to external walls to protect the brickwork and provide weather resistance. Rendering can be left with a textured finish or smoothed for a more polished appearance.
The drying time of plaster depends on various factors such as the type of plaster used, room temperature, humidity, and the thickness of the application. Generally, gypsum-based plaster can take around 1 to 3 days to dry, while lime-based plaster may take longer, up to several weeks. It’s essential to allow the plaster to dry fully before painting or applying any finishes.
